There are things we live beside so often we stop noticing them until they leave. Just slowly enough that one day you reach for them… and they’re no longer there.
A great night’s sleep
The kind that wraps around you and lets your mind rest without asking why. Where is the rest without thinking about every single mistake you ever made?
The ability to jump out of bed
Getting up without the bargaining. A readiness to take on the day and an excitement to see what the world holds for you.
A body that doesn’t argue with you
No quiet rebellions, no small betrayals. A body that does what you need and sleeps when it should. One day everything that should be natural just stops.
Home-cooked meals
Warmth that doesn’t come from a microwave, but from care. Having time to cook for yourself and your loved ones is a gift. Having someone do it for you? A blessing.
A perfectly worn t-shirt and jeans
An outfit that is soft in all the right places like they belonged to you before you even found them. You can throw them on without wondering what you look like or if they will fit. They are effortless in a world where everything requires so much.
French Perfume
Something beautiful, even if it was far too expensive to justify at the time, but worth every cent. Now that is gone you have to purchase another bottle or settle for a less than perfect scent.
Something to read
Pages waiting patiently, ready to hold your attention when nothing else could. Nothing is worst than when you look at the overflowing shelves and don’t see anything you want to read, it hurts more than a papercut.
Journal pages and a good pen
A place to put the thoughts you couldn’t say out loud. A pen on paper absorbs all the pain and loss of your soul. The paper will lock it all away, and the pen will keep your secrets. When you need paper and pen so seal away your thoughts and they are no where to be found it is so frustrating. Yes, the phone is there but it is not the same. You can’t tell me differently.
Daylight
While spilling in without permission, daylight reminds you to begin again. The darkness has its place but we need the warm of the sun to feel alive, even it is through windows. Too much darkness and I wallow far too long.
Silence
Only the quiet is full of everything you needed to hear. When life is so loud, and you can’t even hear yourself think, silence is truly golden. It isn’t until you are in the midst of noise, do you realize how much you need peace.
We assume everything will just stay for us, so when it finally disappears we realize how much we needed it. Make sure you appreciate everything around you, the silence, the moments, and the people.
